Riding in the Spring Classics requires more than just guts and power, it requires specialized hardware that can endure mud, muck, cobbles and inclement weather. Most road pedals are built for sunny skies and warm temps — not for mud and grime.
As such, for several years, racers have been using custom one-off Speedplay Pave pedals that feature an open design and a specialized cleat that provides improved performance under the most demanding of conditions. Now, these pedals are available to consumers — for a price.
